Honestly, I was in love with behavioral science, but it took me a little while to figure out that I wanted to focus on change. Well, Katy, I was curious to know how you got into the topic of change. I'm Maya Shankar, and this is A Slight Change of Plans. ![]() I hope our conversation will leave you with some valuable tips to help you approach change differently in your own life. In this special episode, Katy and I dive deep into the science of change. I've personally been using insights from Katy's research in my own life for a while now. What Katy's research has taught me over the years is that small tweaks to our mindset and daily behaviors can actually inspire big change within ourselves. We're talking swing for the fences change your life type changes. As you know, this show is all about how people navigate the big changes in life. We got to work together on some projects when I was in the Obama White House, and she happens to be an expert on change. Katy Milkman is a professor of behavioral economics at the University of Pennsylvania. A lot of people who do make big change are looking at moments that feel like breaking points and doing it.ĭr. Moments when you leave college and you shift identities and take on a new role, or when you become a parent, those moments, they feel like new beginnings and chapter breaks in our lives, and they free us from the baggage that we had before. ![]() Katy Milkman, author of the book How to Change. My research group has studied this phenomenon where at the beginning of a new chapter in your life, you are more motivated and likely to make a change. In the end, I try to add 10 or less cards to anki (2-3 questions per card in a chunk format). ![]() Then, I review the list and tag the questions that (A) I think will show up on the exam or (B) require brute force repetition that I can’t accomplish through understanding. I don’t generally outline the lectures otherwise. Writing the list helped me learn the info, because it requres understanding to write good questions. Here is the critical part: that big list are my “anki question candidates”. At the end of a dense lecture, I might have 20 “chunks” of 2-3 question sets. All of my questions “chunk” information, which is basically daisy chaining ques for memory retrieval (example below). As I watch the lecture, I write high quality questions following the tips at this link. I create a new page in onenote for each lecture and insert a two column table. There’s just too much minutiae otherwise. Even if you had 6 questions per lecture, you have to remember that you must carefully identify the “high yield” material regardless of how you plan on integrating that knowledge. For example, I have a 30 question exam after 15 dense lectures. Look at the number of exam questions and approximate the number of questions per lecture. Here is what I changed since it has been working for me: I had a similar experience the first go round. Try the anking “ease hell” recommended settings and adjust after a couple weeks as needed. ![]() Use information “chunking” question sets. TLDR- Take notes in the form of creating “question candidates”, and only add a max of 10 questions per lecture. Can somemone please explain whats wrong with my way of working? It all just seems so time consuming and inefficient, and I have a feeling that I didn't get it or that I'm doing something wrong. This means that basically everyday I have new cards, and they keep growing during the whole semester (is this how it should be?).Īpart from that, since I spend the days on lectures/clinics and the evening creating Anki-cards, there is essentially no time/energy to study the cards except for weekends, so I don't manage to study my cards every day. Throughout the week we have lectures, and in the evenings I review the lectures and make Anki-cards out of them. So I made a deck named "7th semester" and then I've made sub-decks for each subject, e.g. I don't understand half of the things people are talking about on here, and I'm wondering if it is supposed to be this hard? It is much better than how I studied before, but still I don't know if I'm doing it "right". I am a Swedish med student and I just recently started using Anki. And I have the flexibility to only exporting my selections when needed.Using Adobe Illustrator keyboard shortcuts will help you create art faster and focus more time on the creativity side. I love using it for making different versions of a project because I can have the versions all in one place instead of different files. If you decide to use Adobe Illustrator to create an awesome design, using an artboard is a must. How do I select an artboard in Illustrator?ĭepending on what you need to do with the artboard, if you want to select the artboard to move it around, the best option is to use the Artboard Tool. Create a rectangle that’s your artboard size, and make a clipping mask. All you have to do is select all objects on your artboard and group them. How do I delete everything outside the artboard in Illustrator?Īctually, when you export your file, you have the option to choose Use Artboards as I mentioned above, with this option, whatever is outside the artboard will not be shown when it’s saved (exported).Īnother way is making a clipping mask on the artboard. You’ll see dashed lines on the artboard border, which means you can edit it. Select the Artboard Tool from the toolbar. ![]() Windows and other versions might look different. Note: Screenshots are taken from Adobe Illustrator CC Mac Version. ![]() Unlike in some other design software you have to change canvas size from document settings, in Adobe Illustrator, you can quickly resize and move around the artboard. You can freely arrange artboard orders, move artboards, change the artboard size, copy and paste artboards to make different versions of your design, etc. Other than being super important, it also helps to organize your work. Artboards are also important for saving your design. So, what’s great about Artboards? As I briefly mentioned earlier, it’s flexible and easy to manipulate artboards in Illustrator, so you can adjust them to best fit your design. Why You Should Use Artboards in Adobe Illustrator
The hobby R/C model airplane/boat/car world has embraced “LiPo packs”, which look like this: 12V to drive a motor or relay, and much higher currents of 1A or more. Sometimes, you may need much higher voltages, i.e. Many sensors work well in the 3.0.3.3V range, some support a larger range – as long as all components are used in their operating range, we’ll be fine. The LPC8xx series works from 1.8.3.6V and so will the RFM12/69 radio modules, for example. When making battery choices, it’s also important to consider what voltage range all parts of the circuit will support. LiPo (Lithium Polymer): these rechargeable cells supply 3.7.4.2V and have a very high energy density – advantage: available in a wide variety of sizes/capacities (also as cell phone packs) – disadvantage: needs some care, since the internal resistance is very low (a short can produce high currents on “unprotected” cells).Coin cell: the most common one is the CR2032 (20 mm round, 3.2 mm thick), and delivers a nice 3.0V – the disadvantage is that most coin cells have limited power (200 mAh) and are single-use, leading to recurring replacement and waste disposal. These can be used either through a regulator with fairly little voltage drop / loss, or as is if the voltage range is known to be acceptable across the battery’s entire lifetime. AA and AAA: single use alkaline provides 1.5V, and rechargeable NiMh around 1.2V, so in both cases we’ll need two or three of them in series to produce 2.4.3.6V, roughly.Let’s focus on the small ones first, since the aim here is to power small wireless nodes, spread out in an around the house: photovoltaic cells (yep, same Volta as before) ![]() batteries, both single-use and rechargeable. When the signalling doesn’t use wires, then the most practical option for power is to also provide it without wires. After that, the condition is checked again and if it evaluates to true the process is repeated. After each time the code block has been executed, there can be an action for the initialized expression that takes place at the end, like an increment statement ( i++) that updates the initial expression. There can be more than one, on multiple lines. There are many different types of for loops in JavaScript, but the most basic ones look like this: for( initialization of expression condition action for initialized expression ), is executed.
